Chris, you should weld the extra holes shut while you're at it....

Yea, we are going to. I just prepped and primered the bay just so we can get painting sooner, and to cover up the bare metal to prevent more rusting. We are going to cut out the rusted out hole and either weld in a new sheet of steel, or rivet in a new section with steel rivets and use backing washers, which my dad says is just as good as spot welds, and might actually be better.

The flux core welder we used only had a high or low setting, and the low setting still was too much amperage. It was pretty easy to burn holes through the metal if we didnt use a heat sink behind the spots that were welded.


Got some things I need to take care of today and tomorrow, so I wouldnt be able to make anymore progress til friday after work.

Circuit sport SS lines are some China brand fittings, not too sure about keeping them.











Worked on assembly today. Intake runners and fuel rail paint is chipping, but I'm not too sure whether I will remove them and repaint. Might just leave it for now and repaint next winter.













Engine bay is Painted. Need to wetsand and shoot another coat

Plug all the holes with jb weld and sand it down right quick.

Ran into a couple of issues today and wasnt able to get too far. Intake plenum had some pinholes in several spots, so I had to weld them shut and grind it down. Intake cam was giving me trouble with installing it, so now tomorrow I will need to unbolt the head and suspend it so that I can install the intake cam at an easier angle, set it to the proper degree, and then lower the had back on and bolt it up. I also noticed the head is missing rubber gaskets in the rear, and they are not supplied with my rebuild kit, so now I have to find them somewhere online and order them tonight.

my guess is that he wants to keep it shiny

its a flux core welder. but the spots needed to be ground down since they would interfere with two different mating surfaces (aka shit would be able to get bolted down)
