| I dont believe having a big FMIC will contribute to lag. But having a big turbo will contribute to what we like to call "turbo lag". | |

| So its 33x13x3.
In that case, its probably too big.
But I'm not sure what your friend was reffering to is necessarily called lag. I think its just a pressure drop to where your turbo is pushing say 7psi into the intercooler, but when it gets inside and expands, you loose boost pressure so by the time the intake plenum sees it, its like 5psi. But this is expected from most any setup to have some boost loss through the intercooler. If you really want to run the intercooler, you could hook a pressure line up before the intercooler, boost and see what you have, then cap it off and check from the other side of the intercooler. Figure your drop, and adjust accordingly so your motor is actually seeing your 7psi. (btw, I'm just pullin numbers out of my ass just for explanation).
But if I was in your shoes and assuming your going to be running a small turbo at 7 psi, you would be just fine running a smaller core. Something like a stock SR, dsm, etc side mount intercooler (SMIC). Though if your wanting to run a really big turbo at 7psi, the larger core would be able to flow and cool all the extra air. But of course with more air you need more fuel and that brings more power. And for more power, you need stronger than stock parts with lower compression so it can last you.
But another thing to think about, everyone always says they aren't going to run a lot of boost, but anyone who's ever had it can agreee, its adictive. And just like any addiction, it takes more and more to get the same rush. I'd definatly keep it in storage if you can.

| thats why ppl get the whole v-mount setup.... that way u get kinda the same air flow but with the radiator acting as a ramp for fresh air it forces air to the ic and at the same time theres less piping so less pressure lost..... | |

| Ill give you my advice just because i want to help out.
If you want to run "7psi and a different intercooler," do so. Its you project, but just make sure youre doing it right. Usually theres too little or too much of something. Tuning requires skill. As you gain experience you become better. Just like anything else. Id research as much as you can so later you are better prepared to handle any situation.
As for the your KA question goes, i believe its possible to use the old harness and ecu but some emissions control devices wont be connected like the second oxygen sensor. You said its a 96 so we can assume its OBDII. Mechanically the 91-94 and 95-98 KA are pretty much identical. The older KAs had external coil distributors and the newer ones are internal. You should check out Nico, Zilvia, 24osxforums, etc etc. Look for similar posts to what youre trying to do. Also try and see if you could track an FSM for both years.
