| Some of you may be aware of the event but some of you perhaps not. Regardless, there is a national 240SX convention being planned to happen sometime in the summer of this year. Regardless of the time and date I will be organizing a large caravan of cars from the Midwest ( Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, etc.) to cruise down to California. This has been in the works for 2 years and would be the first national meet of this scale since 2002. I figure we can bring our midwest rust buckets down there and show them whats up.... so this thread will hopefully serve as a spot for updates and planning as well as a list of people who plan to attend. I am working with people in other states to organze local meets so that they can join our caravan as we make our way to California. So far here is the proposed route that covers most of the legendary Route 66: I also want to shoot a DVD - documentary of the event. http://zilvia.net/f/chat/216602-2010-240sx-convention-update-pg11.htmlThe 2010 Convention Poll for event costs: http://zilvia.net/f/chat/245050-2010-convention-poll.html | |

| If I do go, I'll probably be just flying out there and back, I'm starting a new job in a week, so I know I won't have enough vacation days to even drive out there. Probably take off Friday from work, leave Thursday night and leave Cali Sunday night or Monday morning. Hopefully soon they have an exact date for this event. | |

| Ive seen this on zilvia forever. None of our shitboxes would make it to cali and back. How long is the entire trip? How much dough you think your gonna spend?
If I went, id street in every state on the way there.
And id only go if there was at least 3-4 other low low's riding with me.

| Exactly ^
This is the first meet since 2002. So its been 8 years since a meet of this type has been setup. And I dont see why a 240SX wouldnt make it there and back. If you drive your car everday for months at a time, then one trip to Cali and back shouldnt kill us.
Majority of the cost will be related to the gasoline to drive there plus hotels along the way.
The plan is to stop at least 2 times along the way to meet up with other people in other states. Probably stop by in St. Louis and then stop again in Texas.
Its 2200 miles one way. Say you get 400 out of a tank high way miles.
2200 / 400 = 5.5 so roughly 6 fill ups. $40 about to fill up so times 6 = $240 one way.
$240 x 2 = $480 round trip. Plus hotel and food and track even if you plan on doing it.
You can have a passanger drive with you and share the gas cost so then its like $240 per person round trip ( same as plane ticket almost )
The chance to go to California and see most of the s-chassis / Zilvia and others in real life = PRICELESS
Plus it would be a hell of a trip and once in a lifetime type of thing. I really want to film the whole trip there, sort of a Documentary.

| This past summer I drove down to Florida in a stick shift Saturn. Now how I got to Tampa and back is a mystery. Took a detour to Myrtle Beach along the way.
If a 100K mile 5 spd 97 Saturn SL with no A/C and on a dying clutch can make it to Florida and back, then im pretty confident about making a trip to Cali in a 240SX.
Just make sure to fix all the major issues before hand and perform proper maintenance. Get good tires, check brakes, tighten / zip tie loose parts. Grab spare parts / tools and hope to God an Autozone is nearby hahahah

| Good shit, good shit, lets get this thing rollin and lets start planning. The more people the more fun and the better the event. We should start planning soon.
I figure the route 66 way should be best and most scenic. Also with more people we can obviously get group rates wherever we stay. Its also safer in the sense that if something happens we can help fix the issue.
I figure we should leave a few days early so that we can stay in a few local areas.

| For the record, im not sure that im going at all. Im only going if at least two of my friends drive their cars too. Out of 6 of us that shoulnt be too hard. Route 66 would be rad as hell. Id like that. Leaving early is also a good idea. But im not paying for a hotel like every fucking night. Not made of money here. What date is this on? How long is the trip? | |

| this sounds like it could be a fun trip. but I dont trust my car right NOW on the highway for that long, theres no way I'll make it sitting at 5k rpm at highway speeds for days on end.
and I would much rather save that money for local events and shit. I'm going to be struggling to make them as it is.
~6 local events > 1 road trip to cali for a half show/half "lapping" day at HTM
