| 1995 OBD1 and under you can pretty much swap whatever you want into it, SR, CA, RB, LSx, w/e floats our boat. NO more emissions which means it wont have to pass regardless. There are other issues such as loud noise from exhaust, not having a catalytic converter, etc. But those are up to the cop that stops you and where you get stopped.
Chicago the city is pretty aight with stuff. Ive driven without a hood or bumper a few times and never got pulled over. Ive seen people with side exit exhaust on 10 sec Evos with parachutes drive around my neighborhood and not get pulled over. But then again once my buddy drove into the burbs a few seconds later got pulled over for tinted windows. Like I said all depends on the cop and place.
IN A NUTSHELL CHICAGO IS SWAP FRIENDLY - but shit might get stolen, especially if its a honda.

| cool so if the car is obd2, what does ppl do? as long as obd2 and emission is clear, swap itself is not illegal?
im living in cary right now so hopefully cops r not so ass. im not that big fan of ricing it up to get attention cuz im THE RICE, being a fob japanese.
but man, i got my id taken away just for speeding the other day... as a bond? is that normal here?

| OBDII needs to plug in and pass their scan test. So whatever you swap in, has to be run off an obdII computer and be running properly.
Beyond that... they don't care what motor it is.

| no that's normal, that's how they make sure you appear in court or pay the ticket
you'll get it back after you pay the fine/whatever you work out with he court
on the flip side, you could have kept your license... and gone to jail
few bits of advice, get AAA [it's a auto club] and the next time that happens you can hand them your AAA card rather then your license [done that a few times as well]
stay out of Fox River Grove if you can, but if you can't drive REALLY slow, it's a small town, and all their revenue comes from traffic tickets... so they are bitches about pulling anyone and everyone over. same goes for a town called Buffalo Grove and Wonder Lake, two other not so friendly towns when it comes to cops
Lake in the Hills is alright on the main roads, but stay outta the backroads
as for emissions, if your car is older then 94, your good, swap in whatever

| Watch out for those tint laws, apparently they just jacked up the ticket price to $250 because cops are "afraid of drivers attacking" since they cant see the driver behind the tinted window | |

LOL tints or not, if someone wants to unload some lead into a piggy it wont make a difference. Just like all the other shit including speed bumps, they hardly stop the people that do it, they merely make life harder for everyone else.

| oh i know but humidity doesnt bother me, i usually spend atleast a month in CA every year. I just prefer the city of Chicago to about any city in CA. but i really enjoy parts of CA, i love the fact that its always car season, and i love the beach. | |

| I always thought cali was so lax till I visited a few times. The laws are crazy strict over there. I was suprised as heck. I guess you can get away with alot in Chicago. Good luck, winters suck but the summers are great! Good ratio of women to men in the city. Should be able to find a little of everything if you look hard enough. | |
