| I need some help buying an sr20 engine around chicago area, i dont want to waste extra $$ for shipping. Touge factory sells them for around 2.3, but with tax its going to be around 2.5.. Ive heard of some place by elston selling jdm engines for less also. If anyone can help with information on places around chicago that sell engines it would be great. Got the engine from ill garage, seems good. lets hope it fires up

| 2.2k for a redtop? :\
I want an sr since the shell i got had a blown ka, i would go ka-t but only if it had forged internals, and im not looking to do that unless someone is selling a running one already. I would love to go rb25 but i dont have that kind of $$. ca18 and rb20 are both to old.
So i guess im going to roll with a sr20.

Very true Taka, shit doesnt need a tune, or have to worry about forged internals. And SR with has about the same horsepower as an RB20, and SR are so easy to upgrade, with all the bolton's, such as exhaust manifold, exhaust, FMIC, Fuel pump, T28, legit boost controller, shit u could easily make like 250-270, on a red top... But back on topic, i think a local pick up is the best, thats how i acquired mine...

But back on topic, i think a local pick up is the best, thats how i acquired mine... Where as its hard to bolt a t3/t4 upto the stock RB20/25 manifold?... toss in injectors/maf and tune (chiped ecu even) for 3-400 hp? Both need wiring. Nice RB20 bonus is the ability to use stock s13 driveshaft and KA trannies if you bust one up. Extra money for mounts is something to factor in (on RB). Oh and SR will be lighter... I'm cheap though... so bucks vs light sells me. But RB20 full swaps go for just a hair over 1k everywhere it seems. I will agree on easier to find seals/gaskets/rebuild stuff though.

| but there arent many readily available parts for rb20, and the KA trannys work on sr also, bell housing is the only difference. you could also use a z32 tranny with a bellhousing change if your making major horse power.
but if this is for drifting you want the faster/higher revving motor. yea you can make the rb20 fast. but for about the same money you can make the sr faster and more reliable and save the weight and balance.

| well either way RB motors just sound better anyways. Yes rb20 swaps are considerably cheap. U can use r32 crossmember to mount it in s chassis. Can use non turbo z32 clutch, maf. Plus age wise redtops are almost same age as an rb20det. I don't think i'll garage is set on that price. Give them a call. | |

| Man the debate over motors is never gonna end lol. Its all up to what you want and need. Do research, each motor has its plus and minus. Im rockin a ka that I love, my girl has a Ca thats dope. U can drift, grip, drag with whichever, if its built and tuned right. | |

| its usually better to buy locally. that way you can inspect it yourself and you will know exactly what you are getting.
If you don't buy local and you get a shit engine from an online distributor, don't plan on making a thread here complaining about it

That will go nicely with Lingenfelter LS2 M122 that they sell for $9K average T56 goes for around $1200 if you happen to get your motor with an auto trans. Shit is pretty bomb proof, and Viper spec rebuild kits are dirt cheap for it. The double overdrive is bad-ass. But most LS1 swaps will be out of some wrecked camaro etc. that you can have for 1K more than average SR. hell, if you want to lower the cost, going with castiron L76/LQ4/LQ9 block out of trucks, and you can have that for dirt cheap (1k-ish). GM's shit is like LEGOs.
