| OK. Park.....turn off car..........pull out key. Get out.........realize the car is still on. WTF.....go back in put the key in turn it to the on postion turn it off... still on... Stall the car on purpose. OFF. But the dash lights are still on. Go inside, eat mac and cheese, and sleep. Wake up to go to work. Go turn on car, totally dead. Get new battery from work, put it in, car starts. Idles fine. And im standing there with Frankmon giving him advice on coming out of the closet when my car just shuts off. No sputter, nothing, just immediate death. Go to start it. I get power, and it turns over and all but no start. Ive tried starting flluid to see if its a fuel issue but thats not it. Checked spark and im not getting any. Changed my coil and that didnt fix it. Checked all fuses and relays and it still wont start. Ive called off work two days in a row because i have no car to get there. I need this shit to run asap. Please help me! Kevin, im looking in your direction for ideas. | |

| its definitely electrical. pop off your steering wheel column cover and check ignition wiring. sounds like there is a short in the system somewhere. just trace wires and you should find it. you didnt need a new battery (just needed to charge it) and the coil wouldnt cause that either. dont throw parts at it hoping it fixes it diagnois it properly and then act accordingly if you want, i can fix whatever it is if you want to drive out here | |

| Its that half eaten harness that your hungry tires ate, it wasent doing that before it wore throught the wires, cut off completely and relocate, and since wires where touching bare that might have shorted it out also...... | |

if you want, i can fix whatever it is if you want to drive out here Battery had a bad cell. If it was my ignition, dont you think the car wouldnt crank over at all? Also, i dont think theres any wires having to do with the ignition in the fender harness.

| ok, i thought you just replaced the battery for no reason well if a wire was grounding itself causing a short it is possible that your car would stay on even when you turn the key off. (it would think it was 'on') | |

| Yeah, but theres no start. It cranks but there is no actual combustion happening. Ive checked spark and there is none. I dont think my FP is priming either. But ive substitued that with starting fluid just so see and thats when i realized i had no spark. Which led me to suspect the coil. Are you seeing the thought process now? | |

| Hey dstar where do you live by?
If youre not getting spark well go after what makes the spark spark. You said you replaced the coil but still no spark? Check the distributor for obvious signs of damage and also electrically. Check relays for the computer, ignition, and fuel pump and verify that they work. Check wiring from computer to the component for power and ground.
Can you hear the injectors "ticking" or spraying when you crank the engine if you were to hold a screwdriver upto it?

| Distributor is fine. It was just replaced a few months ago. Relays check out fine.
Remember, the car just SHUT off while it was running fine.
Like instantly.

No garage here, only at my parents, so its fucking cold. Lets take it to Dsquad garage trucky!! Well fix it in an hour! Its way too cold out here. Fuck this car.

| okay well here's what i'm thinking..
when you took your key out of the ignition and the car was still running, the positive feed to the ign switch shorted to the run position so basically it would not shut off
now then later when it would not start the short caused an open between the run and positive terminals in the ign switch. now since the run and start positions are two seperate things if, lets say, there was no power getting to the run terminal there still could be power going to the start switch and thus the car would turn over
HOWEVER since there is no power going to the run terminal that means that the ECM is not getting any power and to it the car is still in the "off" postion.
there is your crank no start no fuel no spark issue
