| taken from the kaaz website......
Different Type of LSD Configurations (1 Way, 1.5 Way & 2 Way)
Some manufacturers make LSD's in different configurations and are commonly classified as 1 way, 1.5 way and 2 way. This designation reflects the design of the cam groove which enables the LSD to function differently under different loads. A 1 way differential means that the cam is shaped in such way as to have positive lock only when accelerating. The 2 way is constructed in a way to have positive lock motion in both acceleration and deceleration mode (Figure 3). The 1.5 way functions almost same as a 2 way but provides less lock when decelerating. The 1.5 way can provide more forgiving balance when braking than a full 2 way setup, although it is less effective for true racing applications, it provides easier operation for beginners in throttle off conditions. 1.5 way is also very effective for front wheel drive cars which need extra stability during braking.
some people are also running welded diffs. this is where someone welds the gears on the cars open differential. it will be locked at all times. basically like a 2 way.
all depends on what you're looking for, and how much money you're willing to spend. i'd suggest you research more.

| And more often than not, the VLSD is shittier. There is also the HLSD (H for helical I believe) but I don't know much about thoes.
If your hard autocrossing, probably want the 1.5 or 2 way lsd.
If your into drifting... NSD is the way to go (no slip diff. aka welded). Everyone I have ever heard from with the NSD absolutly loves it. The only complainers I have personally ever seen are people who dropped 800-1k on a diff only to find people weld them for like 50-100 bucks.
The pro's to a NSD in my eyes:
Cheap Very effective Act's like a really stiff 2 way Zero maintence Easy to DIY
Con's in my eyes:
No adjustablility
Pro's to 1.5 or 2 way IMO:
Baller ass shit Tons of adjustablilty
Con's IMO:
Expensive to maintain Maintence every 6 months at most. Usually need to be done sooner Clutches get worn, need replacing Expensive to buy in the first place
If your new to drifting and have never used either, I would say go with the welded because it is super cheap and will save you around 800 bucks for other useful things. Not to mention that I believe that nearly everyone running stiff 2 ways couldn't tell the diffrence between the 2way and a welded.
Only bad thing about 2 ways and welded diffs, during normal driving they are much more prone to understeer since both wheels are traveling the same speed. But in the case of drifting, it beats the hell out of a open diff.
Hope that helps some. BTW, all opinions are my own and doesn't make them true.

| I haven't seen anyone do this but I have heard discussion about installing an air locker differential. You would have the benefits of locked diff for drifting but you could unlock it for daily driving. ARB does make a locker for the R200A axel, I wonder if that would be close enough to the R200 in our 240s? | |

Hope that helps some. BTW, all opinions are my own and doesn't make them true. VLSD is PERFECT for daily - smooth, quiet, gets the job done. You can get sideways in it fine if you want to NSD???? now you're just making shit up - its called a SPOOL, look it up. If you're AutoXing, you actually want HLSD. Cons of clutch packs is that they're expensive to maintain? yeah cuz getting a gear oil is a real issue All you do is change it every other oil change and you're golden. Clutches get worn? 3yrs if you beat on it. even than 2 clutch disks are like $20 last time I checked. Don't kid yourself. Most people will hate a spool on a daily, only reason why you'd tolerate it is the fact that you're too cheap/poor to get a decent diff. Oh yeah 2 ways aren't as expensive as you guys think. Tomei can be had for under $600 if you know the right people.
