| ok, so my battery is in the tunk (simpsons reference)
its dead.
and im looking into a new battery. im looking mainly at Optima because other batteries can have Hydrogen vapors in the cockpit. so gel-cell is the way to go. but i have no idea about Optimas. so can someone explain a red top, yellow top, and blue top to me?
it looks like red is your average battery, yellow is deep cycle, and blue is a marine battery? can i have verification? thanks
also, what kind of mount kits are out there that are box-less? the box i have is ugly.

| i'd go with something smaller but thats just me, i'm a weight whore, yea i have red top as well
if you have a spare tire in the back, just tie it up nicely onto that
i think TF sells plastic boxes for batteries if you want to replace yours

| the yellow top, from what their site says, is more vibration resistant (and my car is stiff....) but according to this chart, the redtop will help start my car better. ill probably end up with a redtop. now to figure out what size. ill be mounting it on its side so i can put it as centrally located as possible while still being able to reach the terminals. probably use this mount but modify it to be on its side. http://www.papajim.net/ | |

when youre using a plastic box, you have to secure the battery so it doesn't move around. you need to use the mount hooks they give you with the kit. regardless, with the new battery, he won't need a box

| you're right on as far as description red, yellow, blue. i'd say go ahead and go with the optima. i'm using the red top right now and i've had no problems at all. even over the winter, it started up right away. great battery imo. | |

| Walmart has a decent marine battery box for like 6 bux. I combined that with an old battery from my buddies FC and a ratchet strap I found in the garage and it works beautifully | |

| its already in the trunk with a marine type box. 2g wire to the front and a circuit breaker within 12" from the battery in the trunk (per SCCA rules) | |

| Hey Nachtmensch as long as you get a battery with the same amount or more Cold Cranking Amps as your original battery you should be ok. Find a way to prevent it from moving around too much as vibration and movement is one of the main things that can affect a batteries life! If possible get a metal or aluminum box and bolt or strap it down very securely. The box will hopefully keep the battery inside incase it were to blow up. If you need a breaker or fuse, use it! Also dont skimp on the cables as these are prone to be problematic and can sometime cause other starting and charging problems. | |
