huh. windows 7, duel booted to linux, never, ever, EVER crashed once that was not my fault/playing a beta release of minecraft. macs crash, i should know, my fiancee works at a mac tech support center. durable? well i guess i wouldn't know, i have a desktop, which while only costing me $300 to build has a liquid cooled quad 2.5ghz processor, duel SLI 1gb nvidia 9500gt video cards powering three screens [sli read twice the power] 6gigs of ram 1033mhz front side bus and 2tb of hard drive space. classy looking? i guess that's more opinionated and not really an argumentative statement, but i'm not one to hang out at panara trying to look cool

heres the problem. technology-challenged parents click on everything and anything. Your mom probably clicked on one of those "10000th visitor, claim your prize!" a couple times and got a bunch of malware put on the computer

| oh there is no denying that the mac is a very user friendly/safe computer, i -will- give them that. so much protection around the core functions of the OS that it is nearly impossible for someone without command line knowledge to fuck it up. it's great for that, however it is because of that anything other than what apple wants you to use on it is near impossible/slow as fuck
there was a great tech article about portal on the mac when it was first released [i'd link it but idk where it was, google people] where portal on OS X was 50% slower than windows booted on the same mac machine. [and before you bitch, it was a mac to begin with, they bootcamped XP on to it, not the other way round]
idk the whole argument is pointless, i just stare at the hardware numbers when buying/building a machine, and go for the most bang for the buck and worry about the OS afterwards. again i am not the average user, most low end users love macs because of that never crash" marketing, and if you use what apple suggests/forces you to use, it never will.
i, however, like the ability to mess around with things, granted i may [and have] fucked shit up, blue screen of death and all, however that's why you create restore points, and or know what the fuck you're doing.
good luck with the sale, i'm sure some hipster will love the macbook and have many years of trouble free- oh wait didn't you say the battery was fucked? okay after buying a mac proprietary battery from the apple store, trouble free years of service from it.
