| This is probably a dumb question...But my HUD takes a long time to turn on when it's really cold out. Is that normal? | |

| Yeah I know stuff slows down in the cold, but I didn't think this would happen for a HUD. I guess I was wrong.
Hmmm...Wutangben on ClubFR says I could sell my HUD for like $250 or something. If that's the case, I should probably do that.

| Mine did it too. Some consider it to be early signs that its gonna crap out on ya.
If it helps, mine worked awesome for 2 years then it started to just get a little chilly and it would do that. 2 weeks later it went out almost compleatly only turning on when it wanted to.

| Is it possible that it's a wiring thing? | |

| i believe it is the unit itself that goes out. doesnt hurt to check the wiring though. give it a try. | |

| My first HUD stopped working because the unit inside the cluster went bad. It has been said that there is a white box at the driver kick panel that controls the unit, but I haven't ever heard anybody confirm that's what it is. The unit that displays the speed on the windscreen is just a display. It recieves the information from the unit inside the cluster so with that being said, if your cluster doesn't work, the HUD will not work either. If your cluster is still working, you probably need a new HUD... otherwise just get a diffrent cluster (analog preferrably) so you don't have this problem again. On a side note, when the cluster unit is not working, the dash lights 9/10 times don't work either. | |

| Getting the cluster out is pretty easy... just a lot of bolts to take out. If your lucky you can just drop the wheel to the lowest setting and take the 2 screws out of the bezel and take all the buttons out and gently pull it out. Unfortunatly, a lot of times they break or crack when you do it. Its better to take the door sil, kick panel, under dash panel, steering wheel cover all off, take the 2 bolts closest to the wheel out and drop the other 2 down nearly all the way, then continue with the above.
With the capacitor mumbo jumbo... its much easier to just get a new cluster for 80 bucks. But if your an electronics guru, you could probably make some good money repairing these and selling them with core charge.

| these HUD units are pre LED days meaning that they are lit up by a cold cathode ray tube [much like your tv, only a little different]
if that unit goes out bye bye HUD. that is most likely what is happening because when these get old they don't fire up all the way when they are turned on and take a while to power up all the way...
basically you are going to need a new one sooner or later

| This is probably ridiculous, but is there any chance I can get replacement cold cathode ray tubes from anywhere? | |

| I also notice that all of my other gauges don't light up until the HUD warms up. Did this happen to anyone? | |
