Autocross May 11th

Is anyone coming out to the next autocross on May 11th? It's at Route 66 in Joliet, and it's $35 if you pre-register online. Everyone I know is making excuses as to why they can't bring their car, but maybe I'll see some of you 240 peeps. I'll be in the silver hatchback # STS 805 (yes I am aware it looks like it has a lift kit).


I'd like to see a larger 240 presence there. I saw more ford escorts there for fucks sake.

Do they check insurance and all that shizz?

Nah, they don't check insurance. Hell, some people bring cars that I don't even think you CAN insure (open wheel formula fords and stuff).

All they require is a valid drivers license and a helmet, although they have loaner helmets there. Aside from that, as long as your car's not leaking fluids, has a busted suspension, or is some kind of road hazard, you're good to go.

One thing they do check is that your battery is held down. It's even ok if you relocated it as long as it's held down by something.

I don't know how familiar you are with autocross, but they do make you work a bit for one of the heats. So be prepared to chase some cones if you do show up.

i wont make it to this one but i'll be at the next chicago scca event on may 31st probably.

Hmm I might make this if I get some decent suspension....

just go as is.... see how far u can push the stockness........

It's also worth noting, you have to letter and number your car, so if nothing else, bring tape.

You don't need fancy suspension. I'm on blown OEM struts/shocks and I had a blast.

Vatozone or murray's/advance/napa etc. should have universal battery hold down kits. If nothing else, ziptie that shit down. It should be just enough to pass tech

I want to go to the event at Maywood, held by the Chicago VW club or some shit, but Mothers' Day may interfere. I'm definitely not driving out to Joliet though. There are events at Maywood basically every weekend: http://planet-torque.com/sche.php (nice website to have bookmarked btw).

This is awesome. I'll probably go to one of the next Maywood autocrosses, it's a hell of a lot closer. What's the turnout at the Maywood events usually like?

They have loaners there. I also have a medium size helmet, so depening on how fat your head is, I guess I could let you use it .

Random tip... don't spend time drifting the course. You'll probably get warned, then kicked out for it. This is a grip event after all

I imagine turnouts are pretty good. Different clubs run events, so you probably have different sets of cars. I've done events with the Windy City Miata Club in the past and they were cool. Many Miatas of course, but also M3, S2k, STI, and just random stuff.

Hmm....I think I will hit one of the Maywood events instead. Much closer...

Anyone go to the Maywood event yesterday? I went to the Joliet autocross, and it was rainy as all fuck. I didn't even get a good chance to walk to course cause parts of it were in deep puddles of water. As a result, I sucked ass and even spun my car out twice .

I'm really interested in the Maywood events, since they're much closer. Can you just show up any sunday that they're having an autocross regardless of what club is hosting?

my dad lives in melrose so i drove by but i think it was cancelled due to rain cuz there was no one there

Go to SCSSC at Maywood park on June 1st instead..
