1993 240SX (S13) Coupe - 5spd base model, no sunroof, no power windows/locks, no spoiler on trunk (
just the way I wanted it-less crap to break and lighter too)
101K miles on KA24DE. Basic drift mods, and comes with two sets of wheels (15"s and 17"s).
[The Good]- Frame rails, pretty minty looking -- oh yeah and no cracks in the dash
- Tein Super Drift Coil Overs (less than 1.5K miles on them since installed at Garage Kwai)
- Tein Tension Rods (less than 1.5K miles on them since installed at GK)
- Cusco RS 1.5 way LSD (less than 1.2K miles on LSD since install--I'd recommend an LSD gear oil change soon - again installed at GK)
You can have the stock open-diff too I don't care to part it out and it's just taking up space- Ghetto-fab eBaY strut tower bars
- Ghetto-fab eBaY "full stainless" N-1 style exhaust (I say "full stainless" because it was from eBaY LOL!) I've got the "silencer" but you need a bolt/screw to hold it in the tip.
- new catalytic converter
- new Exedy (stock) clutch (less than 700 miles since install at Profunction Automotive)
- new stock replacement battery (Costco power!)
- generic and rough looking circa-1990s 15" wheels with awesome all-season Kumho's ready for shredding--these are currently on the car, the 17's are off because of the state of the Pilot Sports on the rear
- rough looking Tenzo R T5R's (
knockoffs of 5Zigen Copse) in 17" size, with destroyed Michelin Pilot Sports on rear, and some sporty Dunlops on front
[The Bad]- Body s'okay, some rust starting on the passenger side rocker panel and a few tiny spots on driver rear fender, under they key area on the trunk (left side) and one pencil tip sized spot on the roof, strut towers appear clean
- The bumpers need a respray, some of the paint is flaking off, but hey I didn't care since they won't rust! LOL!
- there's a short in this f0cker somewhere, if you don't drive the car for 2 or 3 days it will drain the battery (to correct this I installed a battery cut-off switch on the negative terminal).
- A/C broke
- Rear Defrost broken
- awesome 1990's technology, motorized seatbelts? broken. I slide in or strap up manually (seats and harnesses were amongst my next planned upgrades)
- cigarette lighter is broken
- gh3y uniball antenna broken (if I kept the car I'd replace it with an S2K or Element antenna)
- Factory AM/FM CD stereo, works but weird volume issue going on and CD's sometimes read, sometimes don't
- the shift boot is worn (there is a hole)
- usual S13 driver seat worn on left bolster, random cigarette burn holes, maybe 2 or 3.
[The Ugly]- There is a crapload of rust in the spare tire/wheel tub. This will have to be grinded off and replaced with sheet metal, this is the biggest complaint I have with the car--there is a small hole here already! I lost a piece of the scissor jack (
the winder) because of this!
=========
I bought the car two years ago with 93,000 miles on it, the Tein coilovers were $1.7K, the Cusco RS was $1.1K... and since I have no tools/time I won't get into the labor.... but basically I've got close to $7K into the car, maybe a bit over.
My loss is your gain, but I'm in no rush. This isn't a show car or an SR20DET beast, but I still use it for daily driving when it's warmer out (
not driven during the winter) and it runs just fine on 87 octane! Oh yeah--it will slide, but since it's "only" a 1.5way LSD you can still go grip style.
This is an excellent project car for someone to get into drifting or even autox or trackdays. It's far from perfect, but it's definitely usable and driveable today. I've given a pretty comprehensive listing of what is up with the ride but I'm sure there are other little nags like the wipers only working in fast and faster mode (the intermittent mode doesn't work).
