For the ones who WANT or NEED a LSD

I spent the better part of my day yesterday at Pick and Pull off of 173 and 41....

there are a few j30's and a z32 there at that particular pnp... city auto parts in waukegan off of washington has some q45's with the difs still in place....

the reason for this info...is because i got me one from a j30 for a super sweet deal

the q45's have lost there throttle bodies though, but many MAFS and etc are still available at either JY

thanks for the heads up... too bad im always too busy to go to any

everyone would be pissed to know the sweet deal of a price

last i heard the whoel setup (i.e carrier/pumpkin and axles 69.99) wednesdays at pick and pull is half off....

since i only got the pumpkin with the goodies inside i paid 55 bucks

if it comes from a j30 there is an easy way to pop the shift lock to turn the driveshaft...so dont give up if it is locked, pull the shifter plate and pull up it shoudl disable the lock...if it doesnt the first time do it keep fiddling with the shifter assy. and it definately should unlock.

make sure you can lock it though so you can get more leverage on the driveshaft and axles..

is the j30 a direct bolt on?

or do you need the driveshafts too?

95 and 96 j30 dont need no axels other years do

yea 95 and to mid 96ish and some flukes within the 97's as well

there has been rumor the whole dif assembly was changed around from 97 forwardm and the whole test to see if it actually works with the s chassis has been undetermined as far as i know.


with the z32 - j30 - q45 - and s14 SE lsd's around there should be no shortage, and it tis easy to swap out axles on these cars... FWD cars are more of the headache lol

yeah, but you got to remember to get ABS/nonABS diff to match your drive shaft as well.

Z32NA - ABS but in the rear cover not in the nose like J30/S14
Z32TT - R230 - modify subframe to make it fit - its huge.
Q45 different input IIRC and kickass R&P for highway.

the snout on the j30 is an inch longer but fits with no issues on the "S" bodies...longer to the stated abs sensor

also with the z32TT and the q45's not only the axles different but the gearing is also different as well.

the z32 gearing i think is the highest therefore a little better for turboed cars....on a n/a with less torque you can lose out on some off line performance.

same goes with the Q dif

the SE lsd which is a rarity to find in a junkyard is the same as the open dif sissy....

other S13's also came with a lsd, but can only be found in cars from canada and japan.....

it is the budget way to have more fun.... lol personally, im not to excited about dropping 800+ for a tomei or kaaz lsd...if i had it or didnt have other plans first i would.....other than that yah

But yeah if you want to talk gearing:
Z32 - 3.69 = 200+MPH (on paper)
J30 comes with 4.08 and 3.96 <or something close to that
KA loves 4.6 which is available in Xterra from 01 and runs about 100bux or so.
3.69 is better for LS1/T56 than turbo KA/SR
3.69 + T56 double overdrive = 250MPH car (on paper)

but noone takes into accout the fact that tire size affects the final gear as well, so going from stretched 15 to 255/50/18 is a big difference
