okay... let me just state that the car is running as we speak, these pics are kinda old and overdue. there are more of them however i just need to get off my lazy ass to get them.

okay as some of you know before christmas last year i blew my engine in my 92 Nissan 240sx... in a sence it puked all it's oil and spun a rod bearing...

anyways a full rebuild was commenced. and with out further delay here are the pics...


removing the head off the old block


grr... damn you lower timing chain


head dissembled


ooo new paint... and rice


well there's yer problem... seems there was a little more going on then a spun bearing


for anyone else doing this rebuild... remember to install this plug, apparently it's the darin plug for the blocks coolent... doh


engine in car finally

Dope dude u took a part a twin cam, i gotta do the timing on my car im just to scared to take anything apart thats timing related.

well basically it's all stock except for the new bearings, rings, and seals. however i did go aftermarket for those. yay ability to hold 20lbs of boost

idk on that.. about the only thing i've heard of was 10-15 psi on stock...

but this on these bearings i know i can safely run 20 psi without issues

stronger ineternals never the bottom end on a ka isnt half bad I'd trust up 2 or close to 20psi on that bottom end

and the only reason you see built up bottom ends on ka's is because whoever runs a ka-t is usually boosting near that or more matter in fact the only people ive seen with ka-t's are like 20 plus psi

It is true that some people have managed to hold 20 someodd thousand lbs of boost on a stock block. But for how long? Rings and bearings are not the weak point of that engine the stock piston ringlands are. It can be done if the car is tuned carefully, but the slightest hint of knock is going to start disintegrating the ringlands. From what I have read, about 12psi is the max for a reliable stock block.

As for the stock rods, there have only been a few cases of throwing them even with good amounts of boost. However they are fairly long and kinda spindly. I figured while I was in there, better change em just in case I miss a shift and overrev. Do it right or do it twice or more.

^ True. But from what I've read, you really don't need to boost really high to get some decent power out of The KA.

yeah i was not planning on boosting anywhere's clost to 20psi

and i'm well aware that the bearing and rings are not the weak-points

Also very true, with a stock compression ratio of 9.5:1, only 10psi has been able to net close to 300whp.
