Okay so I'm thinking about buying a 98 240 while I'm here in FL. The dealership I found here has three of them but, they also specialize in body conversion for the 95-96 to make them look like 97-98 and they also specialize in everything else that deals with a 240 (engine swaps, etc). How can you tell the difference in a true 97-98 from a 95-96 conversion? without the VIN I'm pretty sure they can replace it?

Aren't the gauge clusters a little different lookswise?

Replacing VIN's is illegal. Check the dash, door, and under the hood for matching VIN's. The title also says what year a car is.

Power windows are different
and just about EVERY plastic piece will have stamp that says when it was made.

main power window switch uses S13 amp in 95 and some of the 96s. later 96-98 don't.

Wouldn't it be better to ask them? Its a dealer. Not allowed to swap vins or sell cars and lie about what year it is, plus why even consider buying from them if you feel their that shady, like nachtmensch said the title says the year

who cares. if its clean its worth it. if you cant tell then neither will the next 240 fanboy that wants a kouki.
